Abstract
The aims of this study are to analyze how baby boomers`life satisfaction could be influenced by how well they have been prepared for their post-retirement lives and to determine whether self-esteem mediates the relationship between the post-retirement planning and life satisfaction of baby boomers. We categorized the post-retirement preparedness into three groups£ºphysical, economical and psychological preparedness. Three hundred baby boomers living in Cheonan, South Korea participated in the survey and SPSS21 regression analysis as well as mediating regression model were used to analyze the survey results. Our study demonstrates that all three categories of the post-retirement preparedness significantly influence baby boomers`satisfaction with life and that the effect is mediated by self-esteem. The findings of this study provide the basis for future policies to improve the wellbeing of the baby boomer generation. Our policy suggestions include mandatory education programs for post-retirement careers, the expansion of volunteer opportunities in community services and social contribution programs, where baby boomers can share their expertise with people in need.
